Why is my buoy not visible in the app?

This article decribes what you need to do to get the buoy visible in the SmartOcean app.

For your buoy to appear in the SmartOcean app, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Registration and Subscription

    • The buoy must be registered to your account (my.smartocean.com)

    • It must be linked to an active subscription

    • After this, the buoy will appear on the "Equipment" page in the app

  2. Turning On the Buoy

    • Activate the buoy by pushing the black switch all the way to the left for more than 2 seconds

    • The LED indicator will flash GREEN while searching for satellites

    • When GPS signal is established, coordinates will be sent to the app and the LED will show a solid green light for a few seconds

Important Tips:

  • Remember to turn off the buoy (hold the switch for >3 seconds) when not in use to conserve battery

  • The GPS may struggle to find satellites:

    • Indoors

    • When the sky view is obstructed (e.g., by mountains or tall buildings)

  • If GPS positioning fails, the LED will turn RED and the buoy will power off
